nationalism and national identity in education, especially in the context of the United States, internationalization of higher education from postcolonial and critical perspectives, and sociohistorical and discourse analysis methods.

Marisa Lally is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for the NSF-funded Advancing Collaboration for Equity in Marine and Climate Science (ACE-MCS) project.

Her dissertation The Ties Which Unite Us: Critical discourse analysis of the expressed purposes of the Fulbright Program uses archival research and critical discourse analysis to explore the manifestations of the missions and purposes of U.S. educational diplomacy programs like the Fulbright Program given shifting geopolitical tensions. 

She holds leadership roles in The Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) and is an active member of the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES).
