Career and academic development of college students, community college transfer, academic advising and equity issues in higher education
Ellen Fancher-Ruiz has worked in higher education for over forty years in leadership, counseling, and advising roles. She is the Dean of Student Success at the Annandale Campus of Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA). Her prior positions have been in administration, community college counseling, academic and transfer advising, student life, new student orientation, career counseling, residence life and high school outreach. She has held full-time positions at NOVA, George Washington University and Georgetown University. Her previous adjunct and other teaching experiences have been with NOVA, Prince George’s Community College and George Mason’s College of Education and Human Development. Her interests include the career and academic development of college students, community college transfer, academic advising and equity issues in higher education.
Education
Dr. Fancher-Ruiz earned a B.M. in Music Education and an M.S.Ed. in Higher Education from the University of Miami, an Ed.S. in Human Resource Development from George Washington University and a Ph.D. in Education from George Mason University. She is a National Certified Counselor and a National Certified Career Counselor.
