Dr. Jan Arminio Brings Valuable Experience to Higher Education Program

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences is pleased to welcome Dr. Jan Arminio, the new director of the Higher Education Program.

Arminio comes to Mason from Shippensburg State University, in Shippensburg, Pa. She was at “Ship” for sixteen years as a professor, and subsequently served as the chair of the Department of Counseling and College Student Personnel.

Arminio’s career has focused on the student affairs field; she earned her doctorate in the College Student Personnel Program at the University of Maryland, College Park. Last year, Arminio received the Robert H. Shaffer Award for Academic Excellence as a Graduate Faculty Member at Ship. This award, presented by Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA), recognizes a tenured faculty member serving full-time in a graduate preparation program in student affairs, who holds a distinguished record of scholarly achievement, and who has been a personal inspiration to graduate students, served on doctoral committees, and made significant contributions to professional associations.

Arminio was attracted to Mason and its Higher Ed program because of the interdisciplinary nature of the program, and the ability to work with doctoral students. She looks forward to continuing her scholarly focus on diversity and inclusion, and to promoting the research aspects of the curriculum.

The college welcomes Dr. Arminio, and looks forward to the energy she brings to Higher Ed.
