Veterans on Campus: Are Services for Veterans Making the Grade?

Dr. Jan Arminio, professor and program director of the Higher Education Program, co-authored an article with Dr. Tomoko Grabosky for the Fall 2014 issue of NASPA’s Leadership Exchange. The article, “Veterans on Campus: Are Services for Veterans Making the Grade?,” explores how well the needs of the student veterans and service members (SVSM) population are being met in the higher education setting. According to the article, “substantial literature confirms the transition difficulties of many SVSM on campus.” While institutions “have responded to the vast and rapid increase of SVSM enrollments by hiring specialized staff to serve SVSM” and have increased “veterans services through flexible payment, registration, transfer, and housing policies,” additional “changes are necessary, and student affairs professionals lead the way.” Visit NASPA’s website to find out more about the Leadership Exchange magazine.
