Dr. Adrienne D. White, an alum of the PhD in Education with a specialization in Higher Education, was named Vice President of Student Affairs of Germanna Community College. In this new role, Dr. White will "partner with faculty, staff, students, and community stakeholders to advance the college's mission of educational access, opportunity, and workforce development." Dr. White also continues to remain connected to the Higher Education Program (HEP) at Mason through her service as a HEP Affiliate Faculty Member. In that role, she works with students around research areas of transfer students, sense of belonging, student success, retention, first-year experience, and college student development. HEP reached out to Dr. White to ask about her newest career milestone.
Can you describe how your experience in an SIS Graduate Program contributed to or supported this career milestone?
My experience in George Mason University's Higher Education Program played a significant role in preparing me for this milestone by deepening my understanding of student development, organizational leadership, and the complexities of higher education administration. The program challenged me to think strategically, lead with purpose, and approach institutional challenges through both scholarly and practitioner lenses while providing meaningful opportunities to connect theory to practice, build lasting professional relationships, and refine my leadership philosophy. The knowledge, mentorship, and experiences I gained at Mason continue to influence my work every day and were instrumental in helping me achieve this career milestone.
