Over the past two years, faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and staff — primarily from the School of Integrative Studies — have worked to design and study an augmented reality (AR) campus tour focused on cultivating sense of belonging among first-generation, transfer, and international students. Two members of the research team (Amanda R. Corso and Veronica Visser) presented initial findings at the annual Comparative and International Higher Education Society (CIES) conference in Chicago, IL, in March 2025. The conference theme focused on “Envisioning Education in a Digital Society.”
Through their poster presentation, Corso and Visser engaged with fellow educators from across the globe about the possibilities of using AR technology in supporting international students. Participants brainstormed ideas for using an AR tour on their campuses and reflected on their own transitions to college.
Visser and Corso were honored to present this work and are excited to apply the many lessons they learned attending the conference to their forthcoming scholarship.
