PhD Candidate Wai Ling Fong Wins Second Place at George Mason University’s Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition
Wai Ling Fong, a PhD candidate in Education with a concentration in Higher Education, won second place in George Mason University’s 3MT competition. This year’s event featured nine finalists from diverse disciplines across the university, each presenting their research in just three minutes.
Wai Ling’s research examines the long-term impact of online faculty development created during COVID-19. Her study investigates whether the training provided to faculty during the pandemic continues to shape their teaching practices today. Guided by her chair, Dr. Kelly Schrum, Wai Ling’s work sheds light on the lasting effects of professional development in an era of rapid digital transition.
Wai Ling shares that this experience has enhanced her communication skills and challenged her to summarize her research creatively into a three-minute presentation. She believes that concise and effective communication is essential for all graduate students, regardless of whether they pursue careers in academia or other fields.
