Sophia Abbot is a doctoral student and graduate research assistant in the Higher Education Program.
In Summer of 2021, Sophia was thrilled to give two invited presentations. The first as part of a panel for the Summer Institute for Equity in the Academic Experience in a session called "How do we engage students as co-researchers in storytelling and dissemination efforts?” Her second presentation was part of a Virtual Seminar Series for the Gender & Education Association in a seminar titled “Power & Empowerment: Partnerships for Gender Equity in Higher Education.”
In September, Sophia and colleagues's article titled “Naming Is Power: Citation Practices in SoTL” (SoTL standing for Scholarship of Teaching and Learning) was released in the journal Teaching & Learning Inquiry.
Also in September, Sophia presented in the Stearn's Innovations in Teaching and Learning Conference (ITL) in the SoTL Showcase on “Engaging Students Online Through Peer-to-Peer Asynchronous Teaching Assignments," based on the work she has done with Dr. Kelly Schrum.
Coming out in October, Sophia's opinion article “The Role of Ignorance in Student-Faculty Partnerships” will be released in the International Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
